    Foam remains in washer
Hi, I have a 10 year old GE top load washing machine.

Every time after it's finished washing and spin-drying I'd see quite a bit of foam remaining insie, so I have to rinse again.

The water drains very well, and the pipes in the building have just been cleaned. The problem started about a year ago after the washing machine had been left unused for one year. We only use it once a week.

I don't mind doing a rinse every time, but I am just worried that it might cause some leakage or damage etc. to the pipes or something, because I live in an apartment building. Any suggestion would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Actually maybe I should ask a different question. If there were leaks in my washing machine or pipes, are there symptoms that I can see easily (I am not seeing any water around the machine). Thank you!

Does the building have a water softener? If so, was it installed around the time the problem started? I know when I shower with soft water, I feel I can never get the soap off me!

Did you change detergents around the time the problem started? Most manufacturers have gone to "concentrated" detergent that call for about half the amount as before. (Plus, you can use about half of what they say and still get good cleaning) You might try a smaller amount of detergent.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks WallyHelps. Actually the other residents that I have talked to don't seem to have this problem so don't think it has to do with the water softener, and I haven't changed the detergent.

But you are right. Using less detergent may be my solution for now.

    Thanks.
