    My disc drive won't read any thing
    Disc dirve won't read cd dvds or anything like that help

    Your eye is bad. Time to get a new CD rom.

    So windows explorer will not show a disc is in the drive?

    Any changes that either happened or that you perhaps made to your computer around the time that the problem started; particularly any software or hardware that you installed or setup.


    Check device mgr to see if any yellow marks present.

    Nothing new installed recently?

    I personally had the same drive with same problem and had to replace it a few months ago

    Spent a lot of time on this... could I some how have corrupted the 5_1_2535_0_38 driver?

    What you can do is to go to device mgr and right click on the drive and choose uninstall and say OK - once drive is uninstalled, restart computer and computer should pick up the cd rom drive and install the driver for it and see if it works

    You can try to update the drive firmware also
