I have a Kenmore Elite washer model 110.2497. I am looking for a second opinion. I have some knowledge of appliances but find myself second-guessing my thoughts. Here is the problem: it goes through the wash cycle fine. It drains and sometimes it spins. The lid switch is working properly. It does this in both the normal cycle and the delicate cycle. When it drains the motor makes a noise but it seems like the timer is not switching polarity. This problem is very intermittent. When this problem happens the timer continues to move. I can resolve it by pushing in the timer knob or opening the lid to reset it. The cycle then finishes. Before I spend the money for a timer, I want to get a second opinion. The model number listed is incomplete. Please try to determine the remaining characters so I can see the machine you have. Just to clarify your condition, is it that the washer doesn't always spin?

The model is 110.24972300. The last four digits are actuall the color numbers (white). Yes. The problem is that the washer won't spin all the time. After further investigating, I really believe it is the timer.

You are most likely correct. The Whirlpool part number for this timer is 8541275, with an approximate price of 110.00 to 140.00 roughly. This is a very common failure with these timers. Unfortunately, the only way to be sure is to have a volt-ohm meter on the voltage lines to the motor while the unit is malfunctioning. Since that is very hard to do, I usually just replace the timer. Haven't been wrong yet, so I say give it a shot. Unfortunately, the Sears site doesn't recognize the first number as a good model. All appliance parts are sorted by model number. Usually you must have the full model, uncluding color designations, because many model-specific parts are colored differently. It's just to ensure you get the right parts, no matter what part you're looking for. Good luck.
