    Condition for a compoun to be solid or liquid or gas at stp
    I know glycerol is liquid because of intermolecular hydrogen bonding . Likewise how to find for other compounds.
    I know the states of some compound at stp
    Nitrobenzene-liquid;
    Hexane - liquid;
    Sugar - solid;
    Benzoic acid - solid;
    Camphor - solid ;
    Anthracene - solid;
    But I don't know to explain why they are in this state;
    Please help in my high school syllabus they gave only this state of the compound but they did not gave the reason so provide me the reason in general

    Molecular weight, hydrogen bonding, covalent bonding etc. all figure in. Look at water MW 18, all hydrogen bonded. Now look at propane-MW44, a gas but now remove a hydrogen and add a hydroxyl and propanol is a liquid. Cyclic hydrocarbons are never a gas. Now take freons, very high MA but very little hydrogens and they are a gas. Anything with a hydroxyl will never be a gas. Keep reading your book and Google "What makes some chemicals a gas, liquid or solid"
