    Replacing a fireplace face,
I'm in the process of refacing a fireplace. After removing the original rocky face the wall underneath is not very even.

How do I even out the surface, and what would be the most effective way to tile the face of the fireplace? Can I do it without chicken wire or cement backer board? Do I have enough time to finish in a day? Thanks

Furring the wall out with strips and then facing the furring with cement board would be my best guess.

In a day? Good quality work takes time! What's the rush?

Fireplace [ 1 Answers ]

I have an existing fireplace (insert) w/ a brick chimney. It is fairly old, but in decent shape except for the back wall of the insert itself.
