I know I am having a hard time desribing this. I found this like below with a picture identical to mine the only difference is my flange is abs plastic not metal and instead of the flange fitting...

I did I thought. It is tapped inside the c.I. pipe with a hammer and fits snug. I didn't use sealant. The c.I. would be the female and the abs flange the male.

Well it doesn't go down to floor level but sticks up an inch because the tile floor is lower since removing the tongue and groove underlayment.

Sorry, it fits snuggly to the inside of the pipe then you tap it till the flange bottoms out. I may be using this incorrectly... not sure. Tapped all the way into the c.I. pipe it still is 3/4" to 1"...

There was a c.I. flange but it was broke so I went and bought a abs one that you tap in then secure to the subfloor with screws.
