What OS are you on? Have you tried to clear the internet cache, run a scandisk / defrag & make sure that your system is up to that with critical patches from Microsoft?

Tables were really never created for web positioning / placement. They were supposed to hold tabular data. But it was / is so easy to use them for those purposes.
