I have a Mitsubishi Lancer 1998 1.3 75HP car and recently it started getting very low mileage. When I went to a technical examination of the car where they connected it to the exhaust gases tester,...

If you hear a high pitched noise inside the distributor, I'd bet it's your distributor bearing. Search the thezcr.com forum, I wrote a how-to to replace your bearing there. Or you could get another...
-
Error code 4 means one of your distributor sensors is shot. You should get another dizzy and have someone time your engine.
-
Clutch switch might be acting up. You cannot start your honda without pussing the clutch in, right? When you push the clutch, a "clutch switch" signals the ECU that it's "ok to start the engine".

I'd suggest reading the FAQ and resoldering the main relay. It is supposed to give your pump the "juice", but since it's bad - it isn't giving anything.
-
To replace the distributor you need to do exactly this:
- remove spark plug wires from spark plugs
- disconnect 2 connectors (easily reached)
- undo 3 bolts that hold the distributor to the...
-
Do you mean that the steering wheel "locks" when you turn the car off and take the key out and turn the steering wheel in any side a bit, and you cannot turn the key in ignition lock then? This is a...
-
I noticed one funny thing with my car 2 days ago. The cable that connects to the negative battery terminal can sometimes get a little loose on the battery. When it does get a bit loose, my car will...
-
I believe search engines are to blame.
I found this site through a search engine too and found a solution to my problem (with the main relay), so I thought I'd give something back through a FAQ....
-
Sounds like a main relay. When it won't start, try leaving your doors opened so the inside of the car gets colder sooner, and you will be able to start it again, since the main relay will cool down....
-
Perhaps it would be best to go to a shop to have them do it. Now before you freak out on this, listen to me :)
I know it's an easy job, and all you have to do is apply enough pressure. But what if...

Never go with Platinum or Iridium on Hondas. Just take basic plugs, change them every 10,000-15,000 miles and you'll never have problems with it.
Just imagine what force it would take to take out...
-
Drive the car to them, show them how you can replicate the problem and let them sign some sort of paper stating that the problem really does occur and that they will do something about it.
-
There's a small "pin" on the timing belt cover just above the crankshaft pulley. Also, there is a white mark on the crankshaft pulley. When those align, then the marks on the camshaft sprocket(s)...

Congratulations for solving the problem yourself and thanks for letting us know what was the problem.
-
Check fuses. See if any wires are burned.
-
Make sure all your spark plug cables are connected properly. Try to "push" them in some more on both ends.
You might also get a new rotor and distributor cap, if it's been a while since you did...
-
If you get both fuel and spark, I'd check my timing next. Perhaps your timing belt slipped a tooth and is way off.
-
If you're not getting spark, I don't believe your main relay is the problem, since it controls gas.
See if you can find a working igniter unit and try to replace yours with it to see if it helps.
-
You do not have a problem with your car at all. This is perfectly normal behaviour. Check engine light goes off when the car is ready to be started. Do not try to start it before it goes off.
-
Did you check the fuses under the dash?
-
Start the engine, pop the hood and listen and see if you can pinpoint where it's coming from. See if it's coming from the distributor... there's a bearing inside that went bad on my Civic '90 about...
-
Most likely. Can you try to just unhook the radio and see if that helps?
-
Here is one possible "arrangement" of S, P and M which shows that the conclusion is wrong.
In the diagram below, No P are M. That means that there can be no part of P in M (I'm referring to S, P...

I can measure it today and have it posted here in about 12 hours. Only the fronts though.

Hiding the truth from him will do nothing good. I know I wouldn't think high of you if I was in his place.
-
Classical symptoms of a bad main relay. Look into the FAQ for instructions how to fix it.
-
Do you both have stock honda radios?
There is another thread on this about Accord radios causing all kinds of trouble. Search for it.
-
Take pictures of stuff you see, and we'll try to point it out for you.
For example, when I took my main relay out, I was lying across both seats, with my feet out the passenger's door, my head...

I have no idea, but it doesn't sound good.
Is your engine ruined? Is there a hole on the bottom of the engine? Did you change oil regularly?
-
About the error code 16... have you reset your ECU in the mean time?
-
Code 16 is fuel injection system. Have you tried getting another set of injectors (for free from a friend or something) and try them out for a few days? Only injectors from another DX will fit you.
...
-
It couldn't be your main relay. They only make problems when you try to start the car.
How old are spark plugs?
-
Did you try connecting the car to another known good battery with boost cables and try to start it? Are all the fuses OK? Is Check Engine Light on?
-
Also, if the gas was left in the reservoir for so long, you might have clogged the fuel filter when you (or your brother before you) tried to start it. See if you can replace it and try then. Fine...
-
Oh, so you ARE getting both spark and fuel, and you are sure timing is correct. However, you are getting error code 16. If you are getting gas, it makes no sense. Are all electrical connections OK?...
-
You can try replacing the injectors. Code 16 is fuel injection system. It would be easier to swap the whole throttle bodies, and see if your other injectors work.
-
I can tell you prices for changing lower ball joints on a '90 Civic here in Croatia.
Original ball joints cost 42$ a piece. You can get a non-original for about 20$. Changing them costs 18$ per...

I will provide this info as soon as I find a bit of time. At the moment, I'm having a lot of exams at university and it's taking away most of my time.
Good suggestion, though!
-
See if you're getting any error codes.
See if you're getting fuel. See if you're getting spark.
If you're getting error code 16, take your main relay out and resolder it. It's the cheapest...
-
You should always get them to sign the paper stating what is your problem. When you do what they state, and it doesn't fix your problem, make them return the money.
-
Check if you're getting a spark. If not, you might have a shot igniter unit.
Also, you might have problems with your ignition switch.
-
Yeah, Sarajevo is pretty close to Zagreb. Serbs did a lot of bad things in both my country and in Bosnia. We had a few serbian snipers here in Zagreb too... they were mostly thrown out the window...
-
That's a very nice and informative question.
Everything you did makes perfect sense. Also, the problem with CEL staying on is so common on this 5th generation civic, and I heard it so many times,...
-
Holy crap, can't you put some dots and commas in that sentence?
-
-
All I can say is... LOL! :D
-
If you do not find a cheap solution, you can also try to bypass it with a wire. It purpose is to disallow the car to be started if the clutch is not pressed in (safety measure). If you bypass it, you...

Main relay. Read the FAQ.
