Oh.. I see.. tan^2(x+y) is same as (tan(x+y))^2.....

Oh.. I see.. tan^2(x+y) is same as (tan(x+y))^2.. So, when you break it down that will become (tan(x+y))(tan(x+y)). Since y=tan(x+y)... that will be (y)(y)=y^2..
