The only legal way to work out of campus on an F1 is either CPT/OPT or Hardship (please enlist if there's more.. ) and yes, it takes 9 months at least fr applying fr CPT with GPA 3.0+

Why don't start with a volunteer internship? I did 2 of them and got a job after getting some experience out of it.. you still have time before you graduate right?

I called up the LA tax office and they mentioned that if any person working on a 1099 for more than 7 business days within LA limits, need to file for a business...

I'm graduating this may( spring 08) technically, bt taking an extra course to push my graduation to summer (aug 08) fr the same reason. I think that would be the safest way to be.
