Milo,
1) No the drywall by itself is never a good idea to use in a shower. However, I'm using Schluter Kerdi as a water-vapor barrier. The manufacturer recommends installing it directly on...

Tom,
Was this is your vision put into place?
More photos available here.
I got a little pex work involved to as you can see under the tub. I put in some new fixtures that were all done in...

Tom,
Thanks, after I cut the slab and cut the existing trap and extend the line and make the new p-trap, what kind of slope do I need to adhere to in order to allow the shower to drain properly?

Tom,
The jury is out on the inspection. I did contact the local gov't and apparently I need like 3 or 4 different permits (general, plumbing & electrical). With each running about $100 and the...

Milo,
Thanks for the reply. I must say I am very concerned but not detered!
My greatest concern is that I will be breaking up the slab about 2 feet in from the exterior. If in fact I come...

FYI. I did contact Schluter Systems directly via e-mail and here was their response:

I am doing a shower remodel. I am having to extend the plumbing and by doing so will need to break up/trench some of the slab.
I _do_ have post tension cables.
How worried should I be about...

I am extending my shower into our closet. (See here). 2 existing walls have a medium knock-down texture and have been primed and painted. Can I install Kerdi on top of that, or is it best to just...

Well I've been called a lot of things in my life: Hobbs, Hobb-knob, Hobbzilla, Ryan, Ryno, Ry-Ry, Rybo-Dybo, and zilla, but that might be my first "Hobb". :)
I just checked around and...

Andrew,
I think what you are failing to realize is this is a laptop. I assume someone asking this question is not going to be one cracking open a laptop case! :)

Yes from what I have found, it is the code. However, I have read that I'm asking for trouble later on... because silver solder/brazing severely weakens the fitting and the copper tube. The joint may...

Okay, instead of "soldering" can I "weld" the manifold using silver rod under the slab? And extend my lines as originally planned?
Following you so far. I should have water into the house and...
-
Milo,
I thought if I capped off the shower supply and lowered my manifold below the slab that would be the equivalent of soldering under the slab -- which was indicated as a "no, no" and would not...
-
Tom,
Well the manifold's solder joints are probably 6" up from the slab. I assumed they could be cut down & re-connected. Therefore, the platform could be 6" or less.
As far as what other...

Sorry to hear you are having some problems. It is easy to say one thing and feel/believe another. He might not mind some extra pounds and he might -- only his heart will "truly" know.
Worried that...

I'm not a doctor but it sounds like it might be time to take that sucker out and go back on the pill or use other forms of effective birth control -- that does not include "pulling-out" :P

Taken from: Kitchen Dictionary: garlic
Don't know how accurate this is.. I guess it depends on how big the pieces of garlic are chopped. Are they chopped in half? ;)
Substitutions: 1 clove = 1...

Man, I remember when I was in school and tried to have people do my work for me. Usually, like me, no one liked doing home work, especially when it did not benefit them. Therefore, I ended up staying...
-
Tom,
Well, crap!
If that is the way to do it, then at least I can have a sigh of relief in chopping up my slab! I still have some options but I think only one will fit the picture in my head.

Tom,
I'm not sure I completely understand what you mean. I don't believe there is a manifold in the current shower wall or if there is, I guess the term is used for more than what I think of when...

Was planning on trying my hand at a custom shower pan installation with the schluter kerdi system (w/o their prefab tray) as it seems to be a little easier and only requires a single mortar bed.
