I'm getting ready to begin tiling my bathroom. The size is approximately 5x12 with one pocket door leading to another room. I'll be laying 16x16 ceramic tile, and I have a few questions.
1. Should...

Something so simple yet something that has never even occurred to me. But, I was kind of thinking along the same lines... ought to count for something. Lol Good tip, Tom... thanks.
Nope, the WH...

Well, a few years ago I had an old WH that developed a small hole in the bottom and began leaking water. Unfortunately, it happened during the night so by morning our finished basement floor was...

I have situation that may require legal assistance. I'm not sure so that is why I am asking here. I'm also not sure if this is the correct place for this question so mods, feel free to move it to a...

I recently had a problem with an extremely loud, machine gun type sound in my water pipes whenever someone turned on the hot water too quickly. I would also hear a loud bang noise when any toilet was...

Oh, so that flange is adjustable? Hard to tell from that picture. That would solve the issue I have. Guess I will look into this more in depth.
Thanks for the info... Randy

Thanks Tom, I appreciate your reply, but 2" will put me way above floor level, unless I am misunderstanding how this thing works, which could very well be as I have only scratched the plumbing...
-
Well, I thought I was doing good without having to disturb my existing toilet flange during my current basement remodel job, but then I decided to go with this new Dricore subfloor system, which...

Hi,
I am redoing my basement bathroom and am ready to put up walls and ceiling. I've purchased the new fiberglass water resistant sheetrock for all of the walls and ceiling. The shower is a one...

Well, TK, just to update you, I was finally able to find the power specs for these units. The label on the washer says 12 amps. It didn't specify if that included the water heater or not, but the 12A...

I only have a few slots left in my panel so I am trying to save as many as possible for future expansion, which is why I want to use the twin breakers, which means I can't use the single device as...
-
OK, I see what you mean, and that will b e a problem as I don't have the available space for that type breaker. Can I just put in a double box with two receptacles and label them, or would that be a...

Found the nameplate with the model no. serial no. and all that, but no power usage specs. It's like they don't want anyone to know. These units are supposed to be the high efficiency models but I...
-
Thanks TK.
I have tried to find the power specs for the units but there info. Is not listed anywhere on their website or in the manuals. So, I called Whirlpool and talked to a woman on the phone...

I have a Whirlpool Duet washer/dryer set in my laundry room. There is a dedicated, 20A circuit for the room which serves two receptacles and two overhead 50W low voltage lights. Both the washer and...

All right Tom, that's what I wanted to know and needed to hear.
Now where did I put that big spanner wrench I got from Paul Bunyan... lol.
Thanks a bunch... Randy

I tend to agree. On a non-pourous surface silicone can easily lose its bond. I already installed it and I used the putty.
Question now is, how tight do you tighten the nut. What I have been doing...

I'm about to install my fiberglass shower and I've done some reading on the process. I am confused about one thing. Which is better to use under the drain, plumbers putty or silicone caulk?
I'm...

Pretty much what I thought I'd hear. I just wanted to see if there were any other options or ways of doing this.
Thanks guys.

Thanks Tom,
I've already decided to add the support, but I do appreciate your input. Even though Kholer, the manufacture, told me that because it is already reinforced it didn't require the...

Interesting ideas. I will have to give them a try.
Thanks guys.

Well, I found out that you can't put the thinset on top of the old mastic. At least, it's not advised. I guess you could but it would be risky since the thinset wouldn't adhere well to the mastic.

Two excellent questions, which I must find the answers to.

Thanks guys. Looks like I have a fair amount of physical labor in store for me in order to prep this floor for the tile. Fortunately, the floor is fairly level and flat, so all I will need to do is...

Anybody have a secret for removing the black adhesive left on a cement floor after removing old vinyl tiles?
Maybe I should be asking whether I actually need to remove the adhesive. Right now the...
-
Thanks labman,
I've decided to add the support after all. It can't hurt, and it certainly may help to keep the floor from creaking as it ages.
-
Well, I called Kholer and discussed it with one of their reps and they said that because this particular unit has already been reinforced on the bottom, a concrete bedding support is not necessary or...

... that is the question, and here is my situation:
I'm getting ready to drop in my Kholer 60" one piece fiberglass shower (no tub) on my basement concrete floor. I've asked two different...

Tkrussell, thank you for the reply.
Yes, I've thought of that, but the problem with running new cable is the lack of enough spaces in the panel to handle it. What I was going to do is just...

I am planning on running grounds to my upstairs plugs that are currently K&T with the two hole groundless plugs.
Question is, can I run several of the grounds into a centrally located j-box and...

Great link, Tom. I didn't know that stuff even existed, but I do have a few questions.
Have you used it before?
How durable is it after it has cured?
Ever see a JFC bonded connection fail?

Not sure if this is the correct place for this question. If not, I apologize but I didn't see anything more fitting.

I've read where sometimes bathrooms are powered by a gfi from another location, like the garage or basement. Look around and see if you can find another gfi receptacle and try to reset it.

Yup... I am remodeling our entire basement, and so, have most of the walls and some of the ceiling ripped out. I figure this would be the time to do any and all upgrades I want while I have access.

I am. What I meant was I found all of the old connections, as well as the trap, encased in cement, which I have already removed to install the new plumbing. Should I now pour in cement around all of...

More than I had anticipated.
Thank you very much, Tom.
This place is great! ;)
Oh, one more question. OK to mix them, i.e.. a PVC pipe to an ABS pipe? I'm pretty sure I've read before that it...

Just wondering what the differences are between ABS and PVC pipes, other than the color?
Why is ABS almost always used for drains?
Thanks ;)

Sorry Tom, guess I need to be more explicit, so here is the whole story along with some pics for reference.
I am remodeling my previously finished basement, which had a small, full bath... shower,...

Hi, I'm new here but a long time DIY'er. I'd like to know how would a basement shower drain be vented, when it is buried in the ground?
What I mean is what would be the standard connections? Would...
