doug238 is right but I always change out the bottom and top element. Remember to drain the water and don't dry start it... note

You can do that do if. But if your not scared to wired things. At the circuit board use a jumper on w1 and w2. Connect the humidifier to it w1 an commmon. Disconect w2 wire from the stat or board....

You should replace it anyway now there is a chromotherm 8 I believe now. Try getting the honeywell pro 8000 with a backplate to fit that. Or a new t stat good luck. It's the stat you need to buy...

Replace the thermocouple that's all you have to do or clean it with sandpaper.

Try lighting the themocouple under 15secs, if it lights your good. If your holding it longer replace the thermocouple with a 36inch. Clean the pilot head might have slight soot build up. Somtime...
