My Garage door is making the worse screeching, ear piercing sound imaginable. Also, Sometimes when I'm tying to close it, it starts to go down but stops and backs back up after only going down a few inches (all while making this terrible noise. I've tried oiling it without any luck.
Any suggestions and/or advise is greatly appreciated.

I'll guess the two problems are related.

The symptom of noise and sometimes reversing would have me looking close at the track and roller wheels. If a wheel came loose and is cockeyed in the track it could very well make a horrible noise and resist enough to cause it to reverse.

If you don't find any problems with the rollers listen closer to confirm exactly where that sound is coming from and let us know how it's coming.

Try disconnecting the opener from the door with the pull cord. Then work it up and down manually until you see where the hangup is. If it opens well without being attached to the opener, then the problem may be with the opener itself. Use WD-40 liberally on the tracks, wheels, pulleys, chain, and anything else that moves. Tighten every bolt you can see. Best of luck.

The noise is coming from the box (the opener). I used wd 40 and when that didn't work I used a thick oil (on everything). It's 15 years old, so maybe it's just time for a new one.

Wd-40 wasn't made for this... its just what it's name implies... a water displacer.. pb blaster makes a good garage door lube spray. Keep in mind, the oil will attract dirt and dust a lot.

Here are some of your symptoms and the possible causes and solutions for them. I found these on the website; I'm not an expert.
3. Door closes part way and reverses.
Cause ... Solution
Broken Cable ... Replace cable.
Close force not properly adjusted ... Adjust force.
Dry rollers, bearings ... Lubricate.
Misaligned, dirty or defective photo eyes ... Align, clean or replace if needed.
Track is bent. ... Straighten, adjust or replace track.
Worn Extension Spring Cable pulleys. ... Replace worn pulleys.

Cause Solution
End bearing plate tilted ... Straighten, reinforce, file shaft, replace bearing if needed.
Frayed Cable ... Replace cable.
Misaligned reinforcing strut. ... Space strut evenly on sections.
Worn Extension Spring Cable pulleys. ... Replace worn pulleys.

Cause ... Solution
Dry rollers, bearings, hinges ... Lubricate.

If these aren't helpful, you could try visiting garagedoor.org or calling them.

Sounds like your tracking wheels are out of adjustment, and the whole system needs lubricated.

I noticed something new about my garage door.
Even when it was fully lubed, it continued to do the screeching noise
And acted as if it didn't want to go down sometimes.
The first time it started doing it it was in the winter time.
After the weather warmed up, the problem went away.
Well, just this last past winter, it started doing it again until the weather warmed back up.
Any ideas?
