Title transfer during sale of manufacture home question?
Me and my wife sold our home in oct of last year 04 and we just received a tax bill for the property taxes. We have not even lived in the home for a year.
I am trying to get a hold of the people that sold our home for us but they have not called us back yet.
Does anyone know if the people that sold our home for us was suposta transfer the title for us? It would seem like the fee we paid them should have included that.
Does any one know the answer to this question?
    Thanks Doug

When you sold your home there should have been a closing, at which time you and your wife would have signed a deed and other documents that transferred title to the new owners. If you did not attend the closing, then the company that sold the home for you would have had you sign these documents in advance and then they would give them to the buyers. Once the buyers had the deed recorded in the county clerk's office, the information about the property transfer would have been given to the town's tax collector. Sometimes this process can take a few months but it shouldn't take a year. The only possibilities I can see are: (1) the deed from you to the buyers was never signed or given to them, meaning that you are still the owner of the home, or (2) the deed was given to them but was never recorded in the county clerk's office, meaning that legally you are still considered the owner of the home, or (3) the tax collector's office never received the information about the new owner. Contact the company that handled the sale for you and tell them that you received a tax bill. As long as you signed a deed and you (or someone) gave it to the buyers, you are not responsible for the taxes. But the situation still needs to be cleared up.
