    Do you want to insert the image into your Word document? You can do that by selecting Insert, Picture and browse to the place you have your jpeg.

    If you are reading the image onscreen, you are using software to read the image. Also, typing manually in Word also qualifies as "using software", so double ding.

    Summary: You can't do computer tasks without software.


    The only way YOU can do it without software is to say, "Hey, Bob, convert this jpg to a Word doc for me."

    I mentioned Word because he had it in his question. I made assumptions there. :)
