What tips are to be followed to name the baby?

Tips? You discuss this with your partner. Go through all the names the two of you like. Possibly names from your family. It isn't rocket science.

I am polish Gaelic English background, my wife is English Gaelic. We decided on a Gaelic name for our daughter and Welsh for our son. We decided this because it fit with our heritage and they sounded nice.

The range of what you can call a child is vast. First off talk to your partner. See what their thoughts are. Look around your local area and see what names are out there. Are there any you REALLY like? Look at the books or TV shows you really like. Is there something there? Baby name sites, there are ones for basically any culture/location.

The hard part is deciding because this is a name that will follow your child for their life. Some questions are:
1). Can it be shortened?
2). Does it sound like or rhyme with something negative?
3). How hard is it to spell and pronouce? Will people in your area have a hard time pronouncing from reading the name or vice versa?
4). Does the name have any negative emotions attached to it? IE, name of someone who hurt you or your partner? An acronym for something. IE, Isis is a nice egyptian name, and the name of a terrorist organization.
5). How does it sound with possible middle and last names? Does it roll of the tongue nicely or is it awkward?

It isn't rocket science but it does take a lot of consideration. It took us about three months each child to decide. We put the names on a white board/chaulk board and as we decided against them we erased them.

Choose wisely. My In-laws, now passed, were born in Ireland. Our last child was born on St. Patrick's Day. Naturally, they wanted Patrick but I knew he would be Paddy to them. Named him David Patrick -- 6 syllables, rolls nicely, Patrick David, not so much. In fact, all 4 children have 6 syllables to their name.
