Landlord responsibilities
This is for the peanut gallery out there, and to give some advice to other landlords.
I moved into this a townhome 2 months ago. I'm moving out in a month, since this was just a temp place while I got settled in town. The upstairs toilets run. You've probably experienced it... when it sounds like someone's flushed it, but no one else is in the house. I'm pretty sure that the flapper is not sealing completely, allowing water to leak into the bowl and then resulting in the noise when the tank fills back up. When I mentioned this to the landlord, their response was that it had done that for the 2 years that they lived there, and it's nothing major. And to just live with it.
Now, if I weren't paying the water bill, that would be OK. But I am, and if this were my house, that would get fixed to keep the bills down. Like I said, I'm out of here in a month, so for now I am going to just keep doing what I do now, which is to turn off the water to those toilets when I am not using them.
But I'm just curious if "we lived with it" is sufficient grounds for a landlord not to fix something. It's not exactly a liveability issue, but would be something that I would be fixing if I owned the place.
