    Bail Bond
One member’s son got arrested. The mother posted the entire $1,000 cash bond. After the trial the mother waited weeks and only got $750.00 back, the rest of the bail money, went to a recovery agent who charged $250.00 in fees. Can you do business with the court directly and avoid the recovery agent?? Secondly if you cannot afford the entire bond and are charge 10% fee by the bondsmen, is the recovery agent also involved with fees.

The court sets a cash or bond bail requirement at arraignment, the hearing before a date is set, that's usually what they do, but bail bondsmen make money off those fees. You can always sit in jail for free though as it's typical for part of a bail bondsmans fee to be non refundable. They usually tell you that when you sign a contract with them.

    Posting Bail - FindLaw

    Quote:

If you can't afford to post your own bail, you can hire the services of a commercial bail bond agent (bail bondsman). A bond agent will charge a nonrefundable fee, usually 10 to 20 percent of the total bail. In return, the bail bond agent agrees to pay the remaining amount to the court if you fail to appear for your court proceedings.

Obviously Pastor the court wanted more than a $1000 bucks for bail.

My guess would be the bond was $10,000. She gave the bondsman $1000 (10%) and they charged $250 for the $9,000 cash they posted. Otherwise she could have just posted the $1,000 with the court.
