    When it rains my sump pump works ,but there is a bab smell??

    If this is a open sump then you might have bacteria that flares up every time it comes in contact with moisture. Try this. Shut the pump off and pour a 1/2 gallon of bleach in the pit. Now fill it up with water and let it set for a few hours. Now pump it out and see if the sump doesn't smell better. Good luck, Tom

    Is the pump in an ejector bucket, or is it in just a pit in the ground?

    If it's an ejector bucket, it may be that it wasn't vented when installed, and that stagnant water below the float switch sat there for quite some time before enough water filled the bucket to activate the pump.

    The stagnant water is then aerated by the action of the pump, and it can get a bit smelly until all of the stagnant water is pumped out.

    When the pump runs, where does the water discharge to -- The sanitary sewer, or outside?
