    Bird
Hi, I have 2 birds (budgies) and they have been really healthy. However, over the past few weeks my female bird has been wheezing and sneezing quite a bit. It's almost like she is having a tough time breathing. Oddly enough, she is still eating normally, hasn't lost weight and still has quite a bit of energy unless she fly's around the house for too long...then she is out of breath. Can someone please let me know what I should do since I hate seeing her like this. Also, does anyone know what may be wrong with her and if so what treatment I should give her? :'(

As a dog expert, I don't find medical problems work well over the
Net. I like this site, but nobody seems to be answering your question.
Maybe you would have better luck at http://www.birdadvice.com

I don't know if its too late (hopefully not), seeing as I'm posting this about a month later. But I do know it most likely is a resperatory problem of some sort. I would check and see if when the bird is sneezing, if you see anything coming out of the nostrils. If you do, take the bird to a vet right away! There is a type of medication for that and it does work well. Good luck

Did you find out what was making your bird sneeze and where was the answer obtained from? As I'm thinking of getting another budgie would like to know how your bird is doing so I'll have a heads-up when I do get another budgie. Birds are very delicate but so cute and funny at the same time.

I own cockatiels but it sounds as though your bird has a upper respitory infection and you can get medication from petsmart for it. Does she have a runny nose or does it look clogged or congested? Also make sure you are not using aresol spray, paint, candles, perfume and certain fumes around her because it can hurt her. You may can try the medication from petsmart because it can't hurt to see if that is the cause of her problems. Make sure that the temperature is okay and that she is not near cool breezes or something too cool and make sure her cage is not placed beside the door. You should take your parakeet to an avian vet for a checkup if the medication does not help though because they can properly diagnose any other problems that she may have!
