Hey all, I'm almost finished with the interview process for a great job opportunity, and the only thing I'm worried about is a potential hair test. I haven't been told which type of test I will have to take yet, and I would 100% pass a UA. Anyway, I'm currently 47 days clean (will be closer to 55) by the time I am tested. In the 90 day period, I smoked a total of 4 times, all within a two week period in July. I only had a single hit each time from a shared bowl so overall intake was very light. Usage before that is even less frequent and in May so I'm not worried that far back (my hair on top is only an inch and a quarter, shorter on the sides). From what I have researched I feel I should be in the clear, opinions?

From the description of your usage my best guess is that you should be able to pass a hair drug test. An inch and a quarter would be approximately a 75 day time frame going back from the date collected.

I decided to take the initiative this morning and get a personal test done, the results should be back by next Monday, which is the earliest day I would hear back with a verbal offer. They took the sample from the crown of my head which surprised me as it's a bit shorter there, probably exactly an inch maybe only slightly more. Will post an update with the results when they come in. Hoping for the best.

Edit: As a side note, I took a sample of my own from the same region as the testing site. The hair ranged in length here from 1 1'8" to 1 3'8". Somewhat irrelevant because all 4 hits would still fall within this growth range. However, my hair most definitely grows more than .5" a month (I have had close to 1.5" taken off in the last 10 weeks alone) so I think that will help my case as well.

Other factors are the tolerance or cut offs level for incidental contact, and the potency of what you smoked. While I agree you should pass this test with no problem, much depends on company policy. Employers of nurses and drivers tend to have a stricter policy than say laborers for instance. Also your own physical condition is a factor, meaning any prescribed medications you take for legitimate purposes, though these are asked about in advance and allowed for.

I think it' good you are taking the initiative leaving nothing to chance, but don't stress over the past too much, just learn from it.

Thanks for the response talaniman. As for the company policy, I'm honestly not sure. The company is a well-known global company (fortune 500). It doesn't mean that I won't have a UA over a hair test, I just want to be prepared in case of a worst-case scenario, a UA I would be fine no problem. As for cutoffs, I would imagine it would be a standard 5 panel 1pg/mg screen if it were in fact a hair test.

I PASSED!

My specimen was sent to Quest Diagnostics, 1pg/mg screen followed by .1pg/mg confirmation. I did nothing to my hair in order to prep for this, was just a super light user. Thanks again for your words of encouragement. Definitely not worth stressing out over something like this when an important opportunity arises.
