    Pet snake
A friend of mine that I will be moving in with soon is insisting upon owning a carpet python. I understand that this is a battle that I cannot win. My only request is that she feed it something not rodent. What can I do?
    Frustrated,

I'm sorry to give you bad news, but rodents are the recommended and primary food for Pythons.

Now the good news: They only need to eat about once a week: A mouse or rat of appropriate size.

More good news: You'll soon see that the snake is harmless and quite docile. You're more likely to get bit by a cat than you are a domestic python.

I understand that rodents are the best choice but I was told sausage logs were a possible supplement and they did not eat at all during winter.

I haven't dug into alternatives, but I'll bet you're right that there are alternatives to try... but will roomie go for alternatives?

The problem is that any alternatives will likely be less than optimum for the snake.

I'd have a long heart to heart with your friend before you actually take an apartment with him/her.

There are a few alternatives. I found with my snake being at my moms feeding it dead frozen mice young was easier on my moms nerves then feeding it live rodents.

She said she was up for alternatives. I know she has a bearded dragon that she puts a dust with nutrients on her food to help her get all her necessary vitamins and such. Do you know where I could perhaps find out alternatives?
    Thanks
