    Hunter Fan Receiver
I have a Hunter fan with a remote that is a discontinued model. The light only stays on for awhile and then shuts off but the Fan works fine. The Hunter help line said that the receiver was probably bad but no replacement is available but could sell me a new fan at a steep discount. Why can't I buy a new remote unit at Home Depot or Lowe's and put it in the fan and remove the old receiver? Or am I assuming that this is too easy. I would like to keep the fan.

Theoretically you can but you'll probably have to buy a new remote as well. The remote is the transmitter and it may or may not "talk" to a new receiver -even if they happen to be on the same frequency, which they also may or may not be.

Why don't you just remove the receiver altogether and go back to old-fashioned manual operation. I've never understood the need for remotes with ceiling fans. We have fans in every room of our house and the only control needed is "on" or "off".
