High pitch whine in my TV
I have a 52" RCA rear projection TV. It is now a year old. Last week it started a high pitch whining noise when I would turn it on... but not last but a few minutes. Today I turned it on and it has been whining that high pitch sound for 5 hours... I can't stand the sound... any ideas of what it is and solution to the problem?

That high pitched whine is probably a cooling fan running at full speed. Maybe a faulty temperature sensor, since it went from lasting a few minutes to many hours. You'll probably have to bring it in for service.

How high is the pitch? A fan running at full speed really isn't that high pitched (maybe 5,000 Hz)-- when compared to the extremely high pitch of the high voltage supply (15,000 Hz or higher).

There's no mistaking power supply noice: it's an incredibly high squeal that that seems to get into every part of your body no matter how you turn your body; fan noise changes intensity with eveery movement you make.

HV parts can vibrate when loose, which leads to part failure because the part isn't able to dissipate heat quickly. A failing part can also lower the frequency the circuit runs at to the point you can hear it.

    Bring it in.
