    Putative Father's rights
What does it take for a putative father to have his name added to a child's birth certificate 3 years after the birth? Father has been absent the entire time.

To give you specifics we really need to know what state you are in.

I have to ask, why do you want to add his name if he has been absent for three years.

Does he want to be put on the birth cert and accept paternity, or is he still out of the picture?

I was incarcerated in Arkansas and my third child was given up to adoption without my consent or knowledge out of wedlock.. I researched if I had any rights and found one law under title 9.family law a.c.a.@9-9-216 that states an appeal could be necessary if the adult had no knowledge of the decree within the one-year period.. I recently notified the attorney generals office in Arkansas and would like 2 know my chances of reopening this sealed case.. or if you had heard of a similar situation considering I'm the putative father and the mother of my children to include my third child lied to the lawyers and the adoptive parents in the adoptive procedures. Also she admitted to my mother the child was mine then said the child died after birth.

The child is my grandson. The father is still completely uninvolved with the child. I believe he is just taunting my daughter because she was never notified. I am just trying to confirm what I suspect; he cannot alter the child's birth certificate without DNA testing or a court hearing.

Correct he can not without those things. That's not to say he even can with those things but he definitely can't without them.
