"S" Light is on 1991 Honda Accord EX
I Have A 1991 Honda Accord. Over the last month or so, it will put itself Into "sports Drive." The "S" light on the dash goes on, and it switches to this drive, which revs at higher RPMs (5000 if running 60MPH).

    How do I fix this?

Thanks For Any Help You Can Give

I had a 1991 honda accord do the same thing! I started by disconnecting the battery to clear any trouble codes. This seemed to help for a while. After a couple of weeks it did it again! After a lot of internet searching (and hair pulling) I found it! I was instructed to pull back the carpet on passenger side floor board and to inspect the wire harness that goes into the transmission computer, I found mine to be corroded. After cleaning I never had that problem again! The computer is located in kind of a stupid spot, all the water that soaks into the carpet from the passengers shoes it was did it!

It can happen for two resons, there is a little sensor that can be seen only if take off the right front wheel, it use only one screw (10) almost all the time it breaks inside mean the wire doesn't make contact. The other reason is more simple, below the inigtion there is a plug also that if get unplug the S signal start flashin. Sorry if mi english is not so good. I'm from Dominican Republic.

I did have the same problem before , and believe me i paid more than 100 dollars for the estimated... is the transmission control unit,, located right below the glove compartment in the floor right below the carpet.. were the passenger rest the feet,, remove the carpet and you will see a rectangular metal piece.. it does have 4 screw nuts, so remove all before remove that piece in the right buttom side is there 2 conections unplug them both... take the piece out and turn it over you''ll see two square parts the one on the right side is the control unit(computer transmission), there is 3 screws take it off and there is your transmittion control unit... to make sure that is the problem open it have few little screws after you opened,, check the system you don't need to be technician to see if is there any resistor or something all ready burned... if this is the case... you have 3 options,, fix it changing the burned pieces ( you can buy a soldier machine and watever you need in radio shack... 2nd option buy a use one at your risk (coul be a good one or a bad one ) i recommend that if you buy an use one ask for warranty most all the places have no policy return only exchange... ';''''''''''''''''''''las option is to buy a new one... """""""""""""""""""but im for sure if your car have the s light on and is there crazy shifts in your transmitions... that is the problem... i did replace the control unit and im driving happy now... email me if you want... I'm having the same problem with my Honda doing the same thing. Is it hard to remove this cover and if this is the problem how much does this sensor cost?
