What kind of shape is she in? At the very least, your best bet is to call your vet for professional advice. 5-6 weeks is still very young. Depending on how she looks, a visit to the vet is a good idea.

Anyone who can treat a 5-6 week old puppy "really bad" should be arrested.

Yes 5-6 weeks is too young, but she may be better off for being out of the abusive home.

You should be feeding a puppy chow now. Switching to an adult chow for the larger breeds at 4 months, slows growth and helps develop sturdier joints.

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. Half a cup 3 times a day may be about right to start at now. Almost any of the commercial puppy chows should be fine. If you know what she was eating before, it may be a good idea to stick to it.

Check the sticky at the top of the page for more on caring for puppies.
