    Documentary stamps
I sent a quitclaim deed to a County clerk in Arkansas for recording. They returned it to me with a request for additional information as follows..

"An Arkansas transfer tax affidavit statement must be on the face of your deed and signed. The statement may be hand written or typed. The statement should read as follows:

"I certify under penalty of false swearing that at least the legally correct amount of documentary stamps have been placed on this instrument. If none shown, exempt or no consideration given.""

What are the documentary stamps for? How are they obtained and are they necessary? What else do I need to do other than send the statement they've requested?

    Thanks for your help.

I think the current rate in AK is $3.30 per 1000 dollar ( sale value) it is a tax paid in the form of stamps purchased on the property ( think of it as a property tax to be allowed to sell the property. *** 330 dollars for a 100,000 property****

You should get them either at the county clerk office or at the recorder of deed office.
