I have a problem with my bathtub water flow. I have a faucet with one knob that controls both the hot and cold water flow. I can pull it out with and have full water flow only if it is dispensing both cold and hot evenly. If I try to turn it to give me more hot or more cold the water flow lessens to almost a drizzle. This problem just started and I am not sure what the problem could be. I am not well educated when it comes to this type of problem. Could someone give me advice on how to fix this inexpensively without calling in a plumber?

Shut off the water to the valve. (See attachment) To do this the handle and face plate must be removed. You will see a screwdriver stop on each side of the valve where the supplies connect to the valve. Take a screwdriver and turn them clockwise toshut off the water.First, remove the handle. The handle type varies from model to model. Most have a chrome or plastic cap on top. Remove the cap, and then the screw. On most models that use a metal lever handle, the next part you will come to is a brass or chrome Pivot Nut. Screw this off, This step usually will not apply if you have a clear plastic handle. Looking down at the cartridge, you will see two clips. The larger horseshoe retainer clip (see diagram) needs to be slipped. Off. DO NOT REMOVE the small retainer clip around the center of the cartridge. Rotate the cartridge back an forth, then with pliers, pull the cartridge straight out. If it won't move, wiggle as you pull. If it still won't come, I recommend you rent or buy a Moen Cartridge puller to do this.
Insert new cartridge, and replace all of the other parts. If you have water leaking around the spout, the Spout Seals ("O" rings) need to be replaced.
Once the cartridge's removed replace it or check the inlet ports for any crud or blockage. Then open up the supplies for a minute and flush them out If you still have problems click on back. Regards, Tom
