    My dog won't eat!
So, My dog won't eat! I've tried every brand of hard and soft. He will eat one type but the next day, he turn his face. I tried making him some rice and chicken. He ate that but then wouldn't touch it. He has lost a bit of weight. Does anybody know what I should do?

Here in lies your problem. Too many different foods. Changing a dog's diet can seriously affect his digestion. Have you consulted a vet to assure there is not a medical problem? If not, this should be your first recourse. If he checks out with a clean bill of health, pick ONE food and stick with it.. healthy dogs will not allow themselves to starve. I hope this helps. Good luck

    HI,
    Bruce is Beautiful!!
I agree with the answer before this one, of having him check out by your Vet; explain this to the Vet.
I am not a Vet, just a many years dog lover and owner.
When you say "rice and chicken", do you mean the rice and chicken we eat; humans? If so, please don't give him table food. It does not contain the vitamins and nutrients he needs, and he will gain excess weight from all the calories.
Find a dry food (not canned) that he has eaten in the past. Look on the bag for the amount to feed, according to his weight. Then, put down that amount in the mornings, leave it down for maybe half and hour. If he doesn't eat it, then pick it back up, put it down again later that evening for him.
Talk with you Vet about this. I do wish you and Bruce the best, and good luck.

You know what! We took bruce to a vet and they said that he has a prostate problem and will have to be Neutered next week. Thanks for your help. We are giving him some medication for his vomiting and some other pills. What do you suggest we should feed him? The vet told us that we should give what ever food he wants.

Did you try Nutro Max? Now they have an organic, holistic one out in dry and canned. Some people said that picky eaters sometimes would really enjoy this brand. If you haven't tried it, might be worth getting 1 can or small bag. Pet Supplies Plus sells it here.

I would say if you boil a chicken, use white meat only and plain white rice, add a little chicken stock to it. Since your dog is losing weight you should again consult your vet. He may have a tummy ache

How did your vet diagnose the prostate problem? Could it happen with dogs who have been neutured?

I have a dog who won't eat, too. His symptoms sound very similar. One day he was eating fine, the next he skipped a meal, then ate, then started skipping more and more meals. *After* he started refusing food, I tried offering him other things to see if I could get him to eat. Some days it would work, but as the days went by, he started to refuse *everything*. Blood tests and x-rays showed a healthy dog, but his weight dropped to a dangerously low level.

My vet put him on prednisone for a week and he started eating great! Now that he's been off prednisone for a week, he's starting to refuse to eat again.
