Not knowing what the letter says, it appears you would be behind in child support payments and they are looking into criminal charges

Or it is just a matter of following through on a child support order. Is there an existing order in place and are you paying that amount?

This is what the letter says this has been scheduled for you to begin a child support action for the following child . If your receive any kind of public assistance including food stamps, child day care etc you must keep this appointment to avoid termination or reduction of your benefits.

So if I don't go will they close it or still go after him

If you don't go, not only will they perhaps be able to go after him, but they also may stop paying public assistance to you.

In some states, family law matters are handled by the prosecutor's office. The hearing is probably to see why he isn't paying support and whether you are entitled to assistance.

Do you get any state benefit at all, food stamps, medicare, state insurance for kids, If you do, and don't go, you will normally lose the benefit. Next why would you not want support paid.
