    Dimmer buzzing
Does anyone know why wall dimmers for incandescent lights buzz? I have had some that buzz and some that don't. If the light buzzes, changing the dimmer doesn't seem to help. The buzz is very annoying!

The buzzing is the filament reacting to the change in cycles of the current created by the dimmer.

At the Lutron Dimmer site they recommend that Rough Service lamps be used on dimmers, the extra filament supports in RS lamps help keep the filament steady to prevent the buzzing.

You should be able to find RS lamps at an electrical suppier, or even at an auto parts store, as they are popular with auto mechanics.
