Can anyone share some nice places they've been to with their other half?

Lake District, Whitby Abbey, Worcester Cathedral, Central London, Ripleys (Yes), Longleat Safari Park etc.

Anyone have any suggestions or stories to tell? Obviously, the less costly the better.

Don't forget you have a large number of local attractions.
Woburn Abbey, The Canal centre (name escapes), Windmills, farms and stuff..

Cat Bells near Keswick in the Lake District is beautiful (there's many great walks in the area). Good idea to bring some water and perhaps a snack for along the way. It is not a difficult walk up, but it will certainly get your heart pumping and offers glorious views... :) Plenty of sheep grazing nearby along the trail, and people making the trek with their dogs as well... :)

What time of year would you be going? What countries will you visit?

Ahh, just noticed that you are already in Milton Keynes... :) I was thinking you were from the US. Any plans for Scotland or Wales, or did you want to keep it more local?

The closer, the better. We're DYING to go to Florida, as it was both our childhood holiday place, but we're in the process of moving out (West Sussex), so would like to keep next year cheap yet spontaneous

Depends what you enjoy doing really. We spent a week up in Wensleydale earlier this year. It is like going back in time - really remote, quiet and beautiful. You will see a lot of sheep, open green moors, and waterfalls. A few pubs, a few little villages, and not much else. All that remoteness can have some romantic advantages. ;) It can be rather bleak out of season though, but the real fires that abound are rather cosy.
If you prefer somewhere that is still beautiful but has a few more organised attractions Derbyshire is lovely.
