I need advice in regards to setting up RAID HDD configuration.
I'm a gamer, only playing half-life, the machines primary use. Currently using a WD Raptor SATA/150 HDD.
Will going to a RAID set up improve performance in this environment?

RAID is primarily used for Fault tolerance, not for performance.

Last I heard SCSI no longer holds a performance advantage, especially over SATA drives.

I have used raid (level 0) and it is mainly in loading and saving that you see the best preformace. I have heard of people getting a lot of memory and then using it in what's called a ram drive. But raid you will only see an incrase when loading the game and not in game play as for the game is loaded into the ram.

I think that you would like to try a ram drive the load times on that will be better and it will run faster as the ram can be accessed faster then a hard drive. I have searched Google about a ram drive once and there was some software that you could buy or even download. Excellent, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Currently running XP and 1 gig of ram should be enough. Will let you know how it turns out.
