How far from property line can I install water line
I am going to hook up to the county water system in the near future. The place I have picked out to put the water meter is near my neightbors property line. Is there any regulation concerning how far from property line the meter and line should be?

Normally you don't get to "pick" where the meter goes, the city or utility tells you where it will be. And it is normally not on anyone's property but on the public right of way.

Have you discussed this with the utility company and had them do a survey as to putting in the meter

The utility company will make most of the decisions regarding the meter and piping. However, in most city environs, the meters are either side by side or just inside the property line. In my house, it is 3' from the property line.

Thank you for the info. I was given a sign I am to post at the location I desire the meter to be. I did not want to violate any law by having it to close to my neighbors property line. I will be resonpsible for running the water line to the house and do not want to violate any laws concerning the location of the line. I live in a rural area and everyone on this street did not choose to have county water. Do you know if there are laws concerning how close the line can be to the property line? I live in Fayette County, Ga.

You need to ask your town building inspector, but I'll bet that it can be as close as you want to your property line. All my utilities do. As long as the excavation doesn't disrupt the neighbor's property, it's probably OK. You need to call Dig Safe first.

Hey Hamburger, I'm in Woodstock, Cherokee Cty and I've seen them almost on the line. The county will put it in the right of way and utility services are exempt from setback requirements. Brian
