I have more than a few guppies and platys in my fish tank, and theye just won't stop breeding. I love it, and they are all so beautiful. But, I need to get rid of some of them. I heard that you can sell them or give them to local pet shops and such. Does anyone know anything about this?

I've heard of that only with kittens and dogs, perhaps you could call them up and ask it doesn't hurt.
Also I have this memory of when I was a kid the local church had a fundraiser. They had one of those goldfish scoops games you might want to contact your local religious groups and volunteer to give them a discount if they buy in bulk from you. This might want to wait until spring for fundraisers but you could get everything ready now.
Also try e-bay, I know my uncle is into fish and he has bought/sold some animals. You would have to find out how to ship them and keep them alive.
The last thing would be the local newspaper or on-line one like craigs list.

Some local and/or small pet/fish shops will buy, swap fish, or give store credit for fish.
Make sure you ask what they do with the fish and tell them you have live bearers...
Where I live, if you trade or sell live bearers (like you have) to a pet shop, they are only sold as live bait to other customers.
If they do trade or buy just ask what their policies are on live bearers if you want you fish to be pets for someone.
Other than that, I think Craig's list is a good idea.
