    Can you help with...
I'm currently doing research for a story I'm going to write. I'm looking for some kind of a creature - fantasy/mythological/folklore - that's considered evil, but isn't popular; like vampires, werewolves, etc.

I'm thinking goblin; but they're more of a mechanic than they are of an evil creature. And orcs will make people thing LOTR. So, if any of you have any idea's, they'd be greatly appriciated! =D

Why don't you create one? This way you have complete creative control over what it does or doesn't do. Orcs, goblins, and the like,. are creatures that sprung from the imagination of a writer. Personally, I would love to read about something new. :)

I have to agree with Lemming here,, :), creating your own creature, even if it has similar 'traits' as something else.. Reading many stories from Piers Anthony and his Xanth series,he made up(on his own and with reader input) a huge amount of new creatures... Then he had complete control of what they did,how they did it,etc.

Creating my own creatures is one of the things I love doing, that's why I'm challenging myself to try and use one that's already been around, but so far I'm not really getting anything other than things that don't work. I've been considering doing some kind of a hybrid, but that still doesn't seem to quite work. If I end up not finding anything, I'll probably just end up making my own. Thanks though.

Something considered evil that isn't popular.. . hmmm.. . ok, here's one that comes to mind:

In Sri Lanka it is known as Amuku Be
South Asia knows it as jinns
Arabic culture refers to it as Kaboos
    Turkish culture as Karabasan
    In Nepal it's Khyaak
    Iceland tells tales of Mara
Hungarian folklore calls it lideric or boszorkany
    Greece mythology calls it Mora
    Nigeria has Ogun oru
In Newfoundland it's the Old Hag
And in the Southern United States, it's just Hag

Many different cultures have it in their folklore, yet it is not very popular.

That's all I got. If I think of another creature I will llet you know.

    Enjoy:D

Make something up, or combine 2 different creatures. I'm writing a book about something like that too but its totally original and all completely made up. Best of luck to your story though!
