Tap is leaking at the base when I run my portable dishwasher :(
Hoping I can fix this without having to pay a plumber, etc.

Exactly where is it leaking from? Look under the sink and see if there is water, or if it just runs into the sink from the top. Two handle or single handle? From the adapter down the tap? Many tap fixtures seem to leak inside the fixture body when hooked to a portable dishwasher, but we must know exactly from where and what kind of tap are we talking about.

Does it leak when the dishwasher is calling for water, or when it stops? I have seen on YouTube where they actually T off the main water line under the sink and install another shut off and add an adapter just for the portable dishwasher to solve the leaky tap problem.

So lets find the leak so we know how and what to fix.
