    Maytag washer will not agitate
I have ordered two new belts for this Maytag model A-500 but I don't really think that's the problem. It was being used and started smoking from a belt not turning on the pulley. I have checked the transmission and it seems to be working properly. The main drive pulley turns easily enough. When turned in the direction of agitation, the shaft that goes to the tub turns back and forth properly, but the agitator does not turn. The agitator seems to be lock up as it is hard to turn one way or the other from the top.

Is it making a noise? What's the model number? Here are a series of videos that illustrate the diagnostics and what to check for starting at this one.

    This one is exceptionally good.

    A-500

Neither of those two fits my agitator. I did find a video showing a lock bolt at the bottom of the agitator. Not too sure about the toothed ring with the "dogs". I didn't see it having that, so I guess I'll just take it apart and see how it goes.

If it's the agitator, then I might be in trouble. They don't make it anymore and so finding a used one might be my only hope.
