3 weeks late, and some light spotting.
Hi there, Me and My partner Have only just started trying for a family. I got off the pill last year in December after being on it for, four long years. I'm just so confused with the whole thing, my last period was started on the 3rd of Jan and it lasted 5 days and was a week late. Now it's the 22 of Feb an still no period, I've taken 4 pregnancy test and they were all negative. Yesterday I started to get some light spotting (light pinkish with some blood) now it's a day later but still no period!! :/ this have never happened before even before I went on the pill. So I guess I'm wondering if its just my body getting back on track after being on the pill for so long, or am I pregnant? :S

Mother of 5 here! I have been off and on birth control quite a few times, and while I am not a health care professional - I am a little knowledgeable about this. =) Essentially, birth control alters your hormones and stops the release of eggs from your ovaries - which is why you cannot get pregnant on the pill. There are basically two hormones in the pill that do that job - estrogen and progestin. When you come off it, it is a HUGE adjustment for your body, especially if you have used it for a long time. Your period will be very different - heavy to light - 1 - 10 days - it will all be very out of sync with what you are normally used to. I think it is very normal for you to go through those changes! Bear in mind, JUST because you have your period (or what MAY be your period even if it isn't as normal as you are used to) doesn't mean you aren't pregnant. I had a period for 3 months AFTER I found out from a physician that I was pregnant.
FYI... when using the home pregnancy tests - you are more likely to get a false negative than a false positive. If you are JUST pregnant, sometimes there are not enough pregnancy hormones to give you a positive yet. So, when that stick says POSITIVE - you are 99% likely to be pregnant.
Hope this helps! If all else fails - my kids are available for rent... lol. Just kidding! GOOD LUCK!
