Vertical cast iron joint leak
I have a vertical cast iron toilet drain pipe and the joint appears to have a slow leak. I say this because there is water accumulation at the bottom of the joint as opposed to water coming from the top... so I don't think it has anything to do with the toilet seal. I saw some mention of recaulking the joint to reseal the joint but no mention of how to do this. As I understand it this involves using caulking irons to repack the lead. When I look at the bottom of the joint is see a rope-like material... is this what needs to be repacked? Alternatively, are there any other sealers I could try?
