Toilet makes loud vibrating sound after flush
After flushing my bathroom toilet, it produces a loud vibrating sound when the tank is almost filled. I googled the key words and found one of your pages about the problem. The question was made by HBLISS on Aug.25, 2008.

On the page there are two images, and my toilet basically matches the RIGHT one, different from your answer on that page. Could you use the RIGHT image to answer my question please?

Your image on the right hand side didn't label the parts' names, would you use a new image with all parts labeled?

    Thanks!

Your toilet is cavitating. This occurs when debris is stuck inside the fill valve.

The fill valve is the device that allows water into the tank and it has the rod and ball attached.

Depending upon the age of your unit, you can try the following:

    1. Shut the water off and remove the supply hose from fill valve under the tank.
    2. Open the angle stop/shut off valve and allow some water to run into a bucket to determine if you've got debris in your water.
    3. Open the top of the fill valve and inspect underneath the diaphragm for debris.
    4. Look down into the center of the fill valve and determine if debris is stuck inside. If it is take a small rod or wire hanger and remove the debris.
    5. Re-install everything.

If you feel these steps are too much for you, then the simpler solution would be to go to your local home improvement store (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.) and purchase a Fluidmaster replacement fill valve.

It's like the unit you saw in the illustration.

It's about $13 and inside the box is detailed instructions for its' installation.

If you need more help, just ask here.

    Hope this helps.

The right hand image is a float ball ballcock. It only has one part that's removable. The float ball/stem and washer assemby. And that's what you need to open up. Shut the water off at the angle stop and remove the three screws securing the float ball/stem and washer assemby and pull up. Pry the washer out and turn it over. Seat the washer back firmly. Place a can over the open ballcock and turn the water back on to flush out any trash in the supply or ballcock. You should have a strong stream when you do this. Reassemble and give it a flush. Sound better now? Good luck and thank you for rating my reply. Tom
