    Square hole in basement floor
    Hello all, just about to buy a home and basement has an inside trench with a sump installed from a reputable company , also noticed in the area of the furnace hw heater and washer/dryer a 12"x12" hole with 2-3 in of standing water covered by 2 thin cinder blocks.. any ideas to what this is ?

    Probably a rough in for a future tub or shower. Remove the blocks and suck out the water to see if you have a 4" drain pipe in gravel.

    This is a dap-out for a tub installation. (We don't leave open holes for a shower).
    Remove the water and start digging. You should find either a 2" trap or a 2" capped off pipe down there.
    Now you can install a trap and raiser and bring the raiser up a few inches over the floor line. This gives you the option of filling the dap-out with dirt and cementing in the last 3 inches for a shower base or you can leave it open and install a tub. Good luck, Tom
