Septic Tank Lids Exposed... (?? )
Massive Renovation project going on Next Door complete with 1st Floor Raised and Basement Added.. My Query comes because of our Cold Canadian Winters in Eastern Ontario.. They've Backfilled to the Foundation raising the area above where the Septic Tank presently sits a good 3ft. They've put what looks like a 45 gallon drum over each of the cement tank lids for access to the Lids, their exposed.. Thoughts Opinions , Curious is All..

    Hi Norplan

I'm going to guess that if the "drums" are exposed and 3 FT tall at this point I'm guessing that they will be bringing the grade of the ground up to level with these drums. They may also bring the ground 1/2 way up the drum and then cut the drum down to ground level... almost any scenario could occur. I'm willing to be that the drums will NOT be exposed when they are finished.

    Back to you...

    Norplan,
I agree with Mark, these drums are probably temporary risers to prevent backfill from covering the tank lids. Plastic riser kits with matching covers may be backordered; some riser kit lids / covers look like fake rocks...

Thanks for the Comebacks.. Yes the Risers are a Designer Type sticking up about 6" above Ground , could very well be ie: Fake Rock Lid of Sorts.. The house is not move in ready so no one around to pose my question... lol... Curious though if left Uncovered would cause a problem Freezing Things (?? )

No way they'll be left "open"... far to risky as someone could fall in the holes and get hurt, especially children, so I would not worry about that.

Exposed Septic Pipe [ 3 Answers ]

I am installing doors below my deck so I can use that space for storage. Part of this involved digging a small ditch along one side of the deck. In doing so, I uncovered a large pipe (looks like PVC, 4-5" wide) that was buried about 8" deep. I believe it is the pipe that runs from my septic tank to...
