    How to install diverter on shower
    I have a regular shower (no tub) and am remodeling. All tile will be removed and the shower retiled and new shower heads etc installed. I want to have a separate hand held shower from the normal shower head and want to install a diverter but not one that is just on the regular shower head, but instead an installed diverter on the shower wall. Can I purchase a normal shower faucet set and add a diverter and hand held to it? If so , how is this done?

    I have installed a shower arm diverter in one my shower and works great, you install this on the shower arm and then connect the shower hose seethe image below, Thanks.

    What John posted is retrofit diverter. Some people like it, some hate it. It is externally mounted piece that fits onto your existing shower arm. ( See pic 1 ). You have to decide what final look you want to accomplish...

    Since you have opened your walls, I will give you few more options. Basically, you have 3 options:

    1. Purchase 3-handle Tub & Shower body valve ( see pic #2 ). Usually the upper outlet goes to the shower, bottom outlet goes to the Tub spout. Here you won't have spout but you will extend pipe from the bottom outlet to the location where you want Hand Held Shower. To switch bet. Shower heads you turn middle (diverter) valve left or right.

    2. Purchase 3-Way Diverter Valve. Install it onto shower riser (pipe) inside the wall and between shower head and body valve. Run new pipe from Diverter to the location where Hand Held will be located. See pic 3

    3. Buy brand new shower valve that has 3 way Diverter built in. We use Hans Grohe product but there are many other brands on market, like inexpensive Delta. This way you have no extra valve ( diverter ) on the wall. See pic #4.
