How do I replace push-pull shower valve ?
Took all covers ,etc. off.. but valve is still in place.
Removed locking U-pin... but valve has brass collar and valve will not pull out,
    All water off from main.
How can I remove?? What should I do. Old unit.. cam with 20year old house.

May have lime deposit build up.. hard to push or pull!
Have JPG PC if you wish to view it.

    Hey wiilcoxco...

You need to cut water pipes to a shower valve before it can be removed. Here, you will need to access the valve from behind or worst case you will need to open the wall in front enough to get to the valve and cut it out. They make a chrome remodeler's plate for the front wall scenario... but I should explain that more if you intend to go that way. Look behind the shower... see an access panel? If not, may be good idea to cut one in now, then shut water, drain water from pipes, cut old valve out, install new valve... etc...

OR... are you having trouble removing the STEM ASSEMBLY to a moen faucet? If this is the case, they sell a MOEN stem puller at almost all home supply stores. But first try to attach the old handle and see if you can pull it out that way... I use pliers successfully sometimes. If not, purchase stem puller and give that a shot... tool is about $15.00...

Let us know if need more here... ;)

    Thank You!

To be absolutely sure of my next action.

    Here are a few details.

DIVERTER VALVE BODY IS WHAT AI NEED TO REPLACE.
However, it has a brass ring around it where handle stem shpws through.

Seems to be sweat soldered or brazed to holding tube.
Removed u-shaped pin from top but will not budge.
Can I send picture I took??
    Thanks

Post the picture here under "go advanced"...

If replacing the diverter valve BODY then you will need to get access to the valve and pipes. Almost always easiest to access the valve from BEHIND valve? What about you... replacing from front or from the back?

    Let me know...

Did not find GO and advanced!
    Trying this way.

    Replacing only stem diverter valve.
    From FRONT as [ictured.

What does brass ring do? Note it holds horseshoe clip. Is that it?

Rush reply.. anxious to get working for wife.
    Thanks for all your help!

    Heywilcoxco...

Turn water supply OFF to shower valve or entire house.

    Open valve to relieve pressure.

Pull horseshoe clip up and out (I use a pair of needlenose pliers)

Then pull cartridge forward and out.

Since very old, probably best to go to a local plumbing supply house and get an older model MOEN cartridge

Grab a little silicone grease to grease up the o-ring on new cartridge and install the cartridge in reverse order.

If you have problem removing the stem after you have removed the horseshoe clip then you can try re-attaching the handle and give a yank with that OR you may need to purchase a cartridge puller at the supply house when you get there! These cartridges can be tough to remove without the puller, but it can be done with a good YANK... most of the time (be careful not to YANK too hard... ;) ).

PS: If hot and cold end up reversed after you fix this just rotate the cartridge 180 degrees and re-install the handle!

Let me know how it goes...

Valve just stuck has 6 total o-rings that are a tight fit. I used a pickle fork against back pipe to keep from yanking pipes from wall , used another open end wrench around stem of pickle fork for leverage and created a puller t remove stem first initial pull was little rough but pickle for kept from damaging brass pipes, reinstalled handle for our pry bar . Was worried at first but once pass first point all down hill replaced o-rings and no more leaks. Hope it helps someone .
