Foul smell coming from tub drain mean?
There is a foul smell coming from tub drain. What does this mean? B/c a few months ago we had a toilet problem where the water wouldn't flush and this smell was in the tub drain. After the plumber came to fix the toilet and put the snake in our drain because we had roots growing in our plumbing line. That smell disappear, but now the smell is back, but toilet seems to flushing OK. It's just the toilet keeps running after you flush it. Any advice?

I don't think the fact that the toilet keeps running has anything to do with the odor from the tub drain. If you had trouble with the drain and had someone to rod it out they could have damaged the trap and mow it is not blocking the odor from the sewer from backing up into the house.

This is only one of many possible causes, so let me know what you find out.

I would find out what is wrong with the commode and get it fixed. Especially if you are on a septic system.

Mate, I had a similar problem. Try Ecocare Activator. This product is eco friendly and works a treat. I think you can buy it online at Insight Environmental failing that I just send them an enquiry from their web page..

If you use Ecocare Activator give us a report on how well it works. I always like to check out "miracle products."
Porsche1, Are you connected to or a distributor of "Ecocare Activator" ?
I have found most bad smells from tub, showers and lavatories come from rotting hair mixed with grease from the soap.
Try this for your smell. Tonight before bedtime pour 1/2 gallon of bleach down the drain and let it set over night. Next morning, ( and this is important ) flush the mess out with two large pans of boiling water.
The bleach will start to dissolve the hair and make it slippery and the boiling water will melt the grease and flush it away. Good luck, Tom

I'm facing a similar problem in a newly rented home. My hypothesis is that there is a blockage in the vacuum-relief vent from the drain to the roof so that draining or flushed water creates a vacuum that pulls water out of the trap

Just my two cents. If you had roots augered in main line, they may have regrown, cuasing sewer gas to blow through tub trap when toilet is flushed. My bet would be that your toilet will start giving you problems again soon. Is the smell there constantly, or does it only appear when toilets are flushed or other fixtures are used?
