Fishy smell in my water (well)
I recently bought a home with a well. There is a "cullagan estate 2 automatic water conditioner" connected to it. I have no idea what kind of salt is in it but it is about 1/3 full. My well water smells like fish. It is VERY noticeable in the shower. I have read about sulphr and Iron smell. How do I get rid of this?

Hi Robert. Are you getting this smell with the hot and cold water or just the hot? What is the hot water heating source in the house... water heater, tankless coil, etc. Get back to me.

I can't answer that question well. I am now 600 mils away and won't be back for 10 days. I know it is there with the hot water. The heater is a regular standing 59 gal hot water heater. Not sure what the core is.

    Thanks for the response.

Hi Robert... kinda what I was thinking... Hot water issue here. Many homes with water softners have issues with sulpher buildup/smell... I won't go into details now, but when get back home confirm hot water smell and then get back to us.. I think we can help. You may need to change the anode rod in your water heater... Talk soon... Good night... Mark.

We have the same problem.. a strong fishy smell, most notable from shower.. awful
Hot or cold... it is well water, occurred shortly after salt was added to the water softner.. prior to adding the salt, we had the strong rotton egg smell from hydrogen sulfide... how can we get rid of it?? Are these conditions dangerous, or just plain unhealthy?? This area was formerly an orange grove, & I am concerned about pesticides leaching into the well...
