    Brown water in toilets
We have a split level home, built in '79. Both toilets in the house work perfectly fine, but all of the sudden there is brown water filling the bowl when flushed. We checked both toilet tanks and everything seems fine. What could be causing this brown water?

Really? Call the city? It's late, so I don't know if my neighbors are experiencing any problems... but I think this is an isolated issue. Our neighbors would've came over otherwise.

You may also want to try to isolate the problem. Do other fixtures, such as water from other sinks, showers, etc. also output the tainted water? Run water from these into a white bowl and see. If not, I would detach the water supply line from the toilet, run water from the supply line into a white bowl, and see if it is brown at that point. If not, perhaps something is rusting/failing in the valve/float assembly in the toilet tank. Bottom line is to ascertain the scope of the water issue. If it is everywhere, then it may be a town supply issue or it could be a problem with the main water line running to the house.
